Homes and Architecture of Ellis County

This is one of the highlights of the Summer Season in Waxahachie Texas. The citizens of Waxahachie graciously open their historic homes to visitors during the Gingerbread Trail.  The tour  began 42 years ago to showcase the unique surviving homes and public buildings designed and constructed during the era of the ornate gingerbread style.

Getzendaner Park is one of the jewels of Waxahachie!  It is an old fashion park that contains many old oak and pecan trees.  It is easy to imagine how the early citizens of Waxahachie welcomed the cool shade under these same trees when they enjoyed the park with their families more than 100 years ago.

Ellis County was formed December 20, 1849, from Robertson and Navarro counties. It was named for Richard Ellis, President of the March, 1836, Independence Convention.

This building today is known as the Trinity Drug Store. When it first opened in the early part of the 1900 century, it was Curlin's Drugstore.
